Netflix and Instagram initiate ‘Wanna Talk About It’ for mental health

Two huge companies have come together to help people talk about and understand various mental health issues they might be facing due to the ongoing pandemic. The initiative is called Wanna Talk About It and will be an Instagram series featuring actors from some of Netflix’s famous shows.

The series will begin from Thursday, 9 April on Netflix’s Instagram handle at 4:00pm PT/7:00pm ET and run every Thursday till 14 May.

The actors involved include Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), Joey King (The Kissing Booth), Ross Butler (13 Reasons Why), Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things), Lana Condor (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), Jerry Harris (Cheer), and Alisha Boe (13 Reasons Why).

Wanna Talk About It will have one of these celebrities will go live from Netflix’s Instagram every week and have a discussion with trusted mental health experts from organisations like National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Mental Health America, The Trevor Project, Crisis Text Line and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The discussions would include questions and challenges being faced by young adults in their daily lives during this quarantine period and will touch on topics like:

what helps if you’re having trouble sleeping?, how do you stay connected during social distancing?, how do we manage anxiety?, and what self-care actually means. 

The first live Q&A will feature Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) along with Dr. Ken Duckworth, Chief Medical Officer at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). They will talk about self-care.
