Netflix horror film Bird Box to get Spanish spin-off

Netflix’s popular 2018 post-apocalyptic horror film ‘Bird Box’ is getting a Spanish spin-off as the platform looks to expand the universe.

The film is set in a world where almost all of humanity has been exterminated by mysterious entities that force those who come into contact with them to commit suicide.

A bunch of survivors, including Malorie Hayes (Sandra Bullock) and her children, fight to protect themselves and avoid coming into contact with the supernatural forces.

It was 2018’s most-watched film (80 million views), according to a top-ten list released by the platform a year later.

The Spanish Bird Box spin-off is yet to be named, but has been confirmed to take place in the same universe as the 2018 film.

Alex and David Pastor will be responsible for writing and directing.

Dylan Clark and Chris Morgan from Bird Box return as producers, joined by Adrián Guerra and Núria Valls for Nostromo Pictures.

Susanne Bier, Ainsley Davies for Chris Morgan Productions and Brian Williams for Dylan Clark Productions serve as the executive producers.

Production will start later this year in Spain.
