Netflix grabs rights to Will Smith-led ‘Fast & Loose’

Netflix has acquired the right to Will Smith starrer action thriller titled ‘Fast & Loose’. Filmmaker David Leitch, known for action films like ‘Deadpool 2’ and ‘Hobs and Shaw’, will direct the movie.

According to the synopsis provided by Netflix, Fast & Loose follows “a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives, one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.”

Reports suggest that Netflix was in a bidding war for Fast & Loose since the time the project landed in the market in February. Now, the platform has finally acquired worldwide rights after negotiating the deals.

Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber wrote the script for the film. Leitch and Kelly McCormick will produce for 87North, alongside STXfilms and Smith’s Westbrook Studios. 

Smith’s slate of upcoming projects also includes ‘King Richard’, a biopic wherein he will be playing the role of Richard Williams, father of tennis players Serena and Venus Williams.

Leitch is also busy with his upcoming feature titled ‘Bullet Train’, starring Brad Pitt, Joey King, Andrew Koji, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, Michael Shannon, Lady Gaga, Hiroyuki Sanada, Karen Fukuhara, and Sandra Bullock. The movie is set to release in April, 2022.
