Netflix dominates Golden Globe 2021 nominations

2020 was the year for OTT platforms and the recently announced Golden Globe 2021 nominations are proof of the same. While all streaming platforms bagged several nominations, Netflix ranked at the top, with 42 nominations across the film and television categories.

‘Mank’ and ‘The Crown’ led the pack, earning six nominations, the most for any film or television series, respectively.

The political drama ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’ came in second with five nods.

‘Schitt’s Creek’ also picked up five nominations, including Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. The Canadian series will compete against ‘Emily in Paris,’ ‘The Flight Attendant,’ ‘The Great’ and ‘Ted Lasso’ in this category.

The crime thriller ‘Ozark’ tallied four nominations, including three nods in acting categories and one for Best Drama Series.

‘The Queen’s Gambit’ received a nomination for the best miniseries or television film category, with its lead actress, Anya Taylor-Joy receiving a nomination for best actress (miniseries or television film).

‘The Prom’ and ‘Ratched’ also snagged several nominations.

While Netflix dominated the Golden Globe list, many of its hit shows like ‘Dead To Me’ and ‘Bridgerton’ failed to make it to the list.

Meanwhile, other streaming platforms also fared well. Amazon Studios and Hulu, both won ten nominations. Disney+ Hotstar’s ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘Hamilton’ and HBO’s ‘Lovecraft Country’ also made the list.
