Netflix released the official teaser trailer of its upcoming musical comedy film, The Prom. It will be available for streaming from December 11, 2020.
It stars three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep and Tony Award winner James Corden, along with Nicole Kidman, Keegan-Michael Key, Andrew Rannells, Jo Ellen Pellman, Ariana Debose, Tracey Ullman, Kevin Chamberlin, Mary Kay Place, Nico Greetham, Logan Riley, Nathaniel J. Potvin, Sofia Deler, and Kerry Washington.
The Prom is an adaptation of its namesake, a Broadway Musical by Chad Beguelin, Bob Martin and Matthew Sklar, which is based on an original concept by Jack Viertel.
Directed by Ryan Murphy, the screenplay is by playwrights Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin. The first looks were revealed for the Netflix film a few weeks back.
The official teaser trailer of The Prom starts on a glamorous and glitzy note with loud beats and toasts announcing the title of the film with a glittering neon board. It is followed by alternate high school scenes and stage performances.
Meryl Streep is in her element as Dee Dee Allen, a New York City stage star who is facing a professional crisis. An expensive Broadway show that she put together with another stage star Barry Glickman (James Corden) turned out to be a major flop and put a question mark on their careers.
When she comes to know about the problem of a high school student in the small town of Edgewater, Indiana, she, with her ‘troupe’, reach there to sort it out. Emma Nolan just wants to go to the prom like any other kid, with her girlfriend Alyssa.
But the head of the PTA, played by Kerry Washington, prevents that from happening. The trailer of The Prom declares that everyone deserves a chance to celebrate this holiday season as the musical troupe tries to give Emma and Alyssa their dream prom night.
The musical troupe also includes Angie (Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman) and Trent (Andrew Rannells). They are a pair of cynical actors who are also looking to give a boost to their careers.
Allen and Glickman think that helping Emma will be the perfect opportunity to restore their public images which took a beating after their previous flop show. Does their activism help both the causes of their collective careers and Emma?
