Jamie Foxx roped in as lead in Netflix film Day Shift

Netflix’s upcoming film, Day Shift, will be starring Jamie Foxx in the lead role of a pool cleaner. But, in reality, he is a vampire hunter.

The Oscar-winning actor (Ray) will also be the executive producer of the film, along with Datari Turner and Peter Baxter. It will be the directorial debut of martial artist and action director J.J. Perry (John Wick, Bloodshot).

Foxx will play a blue-collar worker who lives with his bright eight-year-old daughter in San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles. He wants to provide a good life to his daughter, which he aims to achieve through a cleaning job.

The twist in the tale is that he won’t be cleaning pools, rather it is only a front for his real job, that of hunting and killing vampires.

Written by Tyler Tice, the screenplay of Day Shift won him the grand prize of the Slamdance Writing Competition 2017 in the Horror category. Later, it captured the interest of the producers of the film, Impossible Dream Entertainment.

Shaun Redick (BlacKkKlansman) and Yvette Yates (Malicious) are producing the film for Impossible Dream Entertainment alongside Chad Stahelski (John Wick franchise director) and Jason Spitz for 87Eleven Entertainment.

The script is currently being revised by Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3, Army of the Dead). Day Shift will be a comedy horror film.

Foxx has previously worked with Netflix as the producer of the film, They Cloned Tyrone and the web series, Dad Stop Embarrassing Me; projects he also starred in. He can currently be seen in another of the streaming giant’s action-thriller films, Project Power.
