Streaming platforms dominate 2021 Oscar nominations

Streaming platforms dominated this year’s Oscar nominations in a year where theatres were generally avoided due to lockdowns across the world.

35 Academy Award nominations were announced for 16 Netflix original films, including ‘Mank’ and ‘Trial of the Chicago 7’.

Netflix will face tough competition from other streaming platforms like Amazon and Disney’s Hulu. Disney received 15 nominations, three of which are for Pixar animation film ‘Soul’. Amazon’s ‘Sound of Metal’ has been nominated for Best Picture.
