Netflix released the official trailer of its upcoming documentary, “Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb”. It be will available for streaming from October 28, 2020.

In mid-December 2018, the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities had announced a previously unknown 4,400-year-old tomb having being discovered at Saqqara. An expedition led by local Egyptian archaeologists found the name Wahtye inside the tomb, and there started the mystery.

Directed by James Tovell, the investigative documentary follows the team of archaeologists as they go about exploring the various passageways, hidden shafts, and tombs which housed a royal priest after his death, who served Pharaoh Neferirkare Kakai during the Fifth Dynasty.

The official trailer of the Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb starts right from the very beginning when an excavator says that there seems to be something down there – right in front of him. It sets off a chain of reactions, ranging from the archaeologists’ awestruck ones to fragments of newscaster’s voiceovers announcing that:

“To discover a complete tomb, it is incredible. … A rare discovery in Egypt. … A tomb perfectly preserved. … Untouched and unlooted for 4,000 years.”

After nearly three months of fruitless digging, what followed was a constant flow of one artefact after another being revealed. And then, as any archaeological discovery proceeds, there is an aura of mystery combined with the thrill of joy at finding new items every minute of every day.

The official description of the Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb reads:

“After unearthing a tomb that had been untouched for 4,400 years, Egyptian archaeologists attempt to decipher the history of the extraordinary find.”

Saqqara is a part of the pyramid fields from Giza to Dahshur, which is a part of Memphis and its Necropolis, designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979. This is said to be a major discovery in the last 50 years in Egypt.
