Netflix’s first ‘Indian original film’ starring Abhay Deol gets release date

Chopsticks, starring Abhay Deol and Mithila Palker is set to start streaming on 31 May, 2019. Netflix is calling it its ‘first Indian original film’ as it has been created from scratch by the streaming platform unlike other films which were acquired.

Directed by Sachin Yardi, the film also stars Vijay Raaz and Benafsha Soonawalla. The official synopsis reads: “A gifted but insecure woman is in for a transformative experience when she enlists an enigmatic con to help recover her stolen car from a Mumbai thug.”

Netflix revealed the release date for the film in their announcement of upcoming titles in May. Chopsticks was initially announced in a showcase event in Singapore last year in November along with other titles.

The investment in Indian content by the Netflix has been on the rise as it recently announced 10 new films in collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar and other great Bollywood filmmakers.
