Netflix greenlights ‘The Witcher’ live-action prequel

The streaming giant has announced a new spinoff web series in The Witcher universe titled, The Witcher: Blood Origin.

According to the announcement, the spinoff will be set 1200 years before the event of season 1 of the original Netflix show. The viewers will get to witness the ancient history mentioned by Geralt and the others in this new venture.

This includes the merging of the worlds of men, monsters, and elves and the creation of the first Witcher. The new web series will have six episodes and will be written by Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.

When The Witcher released last year, it catapulted to the position of Netflix’s most popular show soon after. It was so successful that Netflix even announced an anime, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, to expand on the story.

With season 2 of the main show also in the works, it is no secret that Netflix plans to build a proper web universe centring around the world created by Andrzej Sapkowski’s best selling books.
