Netflix announces 40 anime titles for 2021

Netflix announced in the virtually conducted AnimeJapan 2021 event that they will launch around 40 anime titles this year. Soon-to-premiere anime shows include ‘Record of Ragnarok’, ‘RESIDENT EVIL: Infinite Darkness’, ‘The Way of the Househusband’, ‘Eden’ and ‘Yasuke’.

‘The Way of the Househusband’ is a gangster anime series, with underworld big-shot Tatsu at its centre. As Tatsu gives up crime and sets about to lead a regular lifestyle as the househusband, his criminal past returns to haunt him. ‘The Way of the Househusband’ will release on 8 April.

‘Record of Ragnarok’ is based on the hugely successful manga series. It presents the war between humans and Gods, with the future of humanity at stake. ‘Record of Ragnarok’ is set to release in June.

‘Eden’ will be up on 27 May. The show will portray a futuristic world with AI robots in charge. The story begins as two robots coincidentally encounter a human baby.

Set to stream from 29 April, ‘Yasuke’ is based in feudal-era Japan. The series surrounds the mighty ronin Yasuke, also called ‘Black Samurai’, in his battles against the warlords plundering the land.

Netflix production team recognized that the number of anime viewers has increased by half since 2019. While the worldwide anime market enlarges, Netflix seems to be looking to up its anime game.

Taiki Sakurai, the chief anime producer of Netflix, said: “The growth of our business is directly connected to the growth of our anime.”
