Netflix dropped the teaser trailer of Eden, its first Japanese Original Anime series, which will be available for global streaming on the platform in May 2021.
Created by Justin Leach (Ghost in the Shell 2) and directed by Yasuhiro Irie (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood), the anime series is a dystopian science fiction fantasy story in which two farming robots find a young human girl in the city and decide to raise her.
The world, thousands of years into the future, is populated only by robots. Living in the city called Eden 3, the previous human masters of the robots vanished a long time ago. Sara Grace is possibly the last surviving human child, whom the two robots discover accidentally while on a routine assignment.
Netflix describes Eden as heartfelt and exciting, a web series which can be watched together with the entire family, and its teaser trailer confirms that. Opening on a pleasant and scenic view of a green world with blue skies where birds are merrily chirping, the teaser shows a cute baby girl who dreams about someone asking for her help.
Reminiscent of the way baby Superman was found by humans in an alien spaceship, Sara is woken up from stasis by the robots. Her robot ‘parents’ decide to leave the mechanical metropolis of Eden 3 with her since many of their fellow robots believe that humans were evil.
Eden is the journey of a baby girl who grows up wondering what is her purpose in the world and why is she a human instead of a robot, like everyone around her. Also, as she grows older, Sara tries to make sense of the dreams that have plagued her since her childhood.
She believes that there is someone in Eden 3 who needs her help and is persistently calling out to her.
Toshihiro Kawamoto (Cowboy Bebop) is the concept designer of the web series, which was earlier slated to release this year itself.
Recently, Netflix partnered with four Japanese anime production houses, where the streaming giant will work with top creators and talent to create best-in-class content, with a vision to serve anime fans all over the world.
