Netflix’s ‘Wish Dragon’ revisits legendary adventure in Shanghai

The official trailer of Sony Pictures Animation’s ‘Wish Dragon’ has been released by Netflix. The American-Chinese animation that had a theatrical release in China in January is set to stream globally on June 11 on the platform.

The narrative of ‘Wish Dragon’ revolves around Din, a starry-eyed student of humble origins, who stumbles upon an ancient magical tea-pot with a supremely-powerful wish-granting dragon named, Long. The dreamer-cynic duo, then, set out on a rambunctious adventure to pursue and reconnect with Din’s now-famous, long-lost best childhood friend, Lina.

The adventure through the enchanting streets of Shanghai turns life-altering when Din has to decide to seek what truly matters over anything that he can wish easily.

A mix of Asian and American cast has voiced over for this Aladdin-inspired animation with Jimmy Wong playing Din, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Lina, and John Cho (of ‘Harold & Kumar’ films fame) playing the character of Long, which was voiced by Jackie Chan in the Mandarin version of the animation. The rest of the cast includes, Constance Wu, Will Yun Lee, Jimmy O. Yang, Aaron Yoo, Ronny Chieng.

Chris Appelhans makes his directorial debut with ‘Wish Dragon’ which he has also written, and the film is produced by Aron Warner, Chris Bremble, Jackie Chan.

‘Wish Dragon’ is second animation film released by Sony Pictures Animation on Netflix after ‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’ that premiered on the streamer in April.
