Netflix has bagged the rights to release Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut, ‘The Lost Daughter’. The deal with Endeavour Content covers the US and remaining territories.
Based on an eponymous 2006 novel by Italian author Elena Ferrante, ‘The Lost Daughter’ follows a college professor on a beach vacation, which unexpectedly takes a dark turn as her traumatic past resurfaces in front of her.
The script has been adapted by Gyllenhaal, who also produced the movie alongside Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman-Keren for Pie Films, Charles Dorfman for Samuel Marshall Films, and Endeavor Content.
‘The Lost Daughter’ stars Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, Peter Sarsgaard, Paul Mescal, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Ed Harris.
Gyllenhaal, who previously starred in ‘The Kindergarten Teacher’ for Netflix, said:
“I’m thrilled to be working with Netflix again. They have supported so much of the work I am most proud of, and this is no exception. Netflix has consistently championed filmmakers that excite and inspire me and I’m delighted to be included in that company.”
‘The Lost Daughter’ is set to open at the Venice Film Festival next month. The movie has been shot in Greece. A release date is yet to be announced.
