Netflix acquires Adam Mckay’s film ‘Don’t Look Up’ starring Jennifer Lawrence

Netflix, on 19 February, announced the acquisition of Adam Mckay’s comedy film, Don’t Look up

The film is based on the story of two low-ranking astronauts who must embark on a mission involving a massive media tour to warn the people of the earth about a fast approaching asteroid. The said asteroid is capable of destroying the whole planet.

Mckay, an Academy award-winning writer, has written the script of the film and will also direct it. Mckay is said to produce the film under his Hyperobject Industries banner with Kevin Messick.

The film will star Jennifer Lawrence, who is also an Academy award winner, in the lead role. Lawrence has only done two movies in the past two years, so her involvement in this project came as a pleasant surprise to her fans. On Lawrence’s involvement in the film, Mckay stated:

I’m so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence. She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call ‘a dynamite act.’ And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way.

The shooting of Don’t Look Up is scheduled to start in April and the film will be released later this year.
