MX Player has announced the premiere of Red Bull ‘Spotlight’. The six-episode series to find India’s next big rap star will stream from April 2, 2021.
A nationwide hunt for emerging rappers was held in early 2020. Eight rappers were selected after a virtual pre-qualifier held between contestants from 15 different cities. One finalist out of these eight rappers will be the winner of the title.
Directed by Nisha Vasudevan, Red Bull Spotlight’s finalists are A-Gan, Albela, Loud Silence, MC Headshot, Siyaahi, Manikk, Rushi Gosavi, and Flying Fish. The show is produced by Red Bull Media House and MX Player with Supari Studios.
‘Spotlight’ features the competition held between the eight young rappers after attending several workshops, sessions, face-offs and performances. They are mentored by some of the famous names in the Indian hip-hop industry like Sez On The Beat, Dopeadelicz, MC Kode, Devil, Brodha V and Sofia Ashraf.
The finale of Red Bull ‘Spotlight’ will be judged by Divine, Naezy, Emiway Bantai and Dee MC. The show’s anthem, ‘Sar Utha’, is presented by the hosts and hip-hop duo Seedhe Maut.
The winner will get an opportunity to record a full-length album, a music video and support for its promotion.
