Musical journey of ‘The Disciple’ on Netflix

Netflix released the trailer for its upcoming Marathi movie ‘The Disciple’ recently. The film journeys through the life of Sharad Nerulkar (Aditya Modak). The film will stream on Netflix from April 30.

It is written and directed by Chaitanya Tamhane and produced by Vivek Gomber along with executive producer, Mexican film writer-actor, Alfonso Cuarón.

The star cast includes famous names in Marathi cinema — Aditya Modak, Arun Dravid, Sumitra Bhave, Deepika Bhide Bhagwat, and Kiran Yadnyopavit.

The movie is based on the musical journey of Sharad Nerulkar who wants to become a known name in the world of classical music in the modern era. He follows the guidance and footsteps of both his father and his teacher (guru) diligently but ends up overthinking if his dream is even achievable. Through the movie, we’re taken on a path of devotion, passion, and searching for the absolute, in a noisy Mumbai.

The official description of ‘The Disciple’ reads:

“A musician’s unadulterated devotion, a mirage-like quest for divinity, and the courage to fight your own mediocrity. The Disciple is the tale of an Indian classical vocalist, Sharad Nerulkar, searching for the traditional absolute in a contemporary city that never stops hustling”.
