Pakistani and Indian filmmaker to direct Disney+ series Ms. Marvel

Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Indian filmmaker Meera Menon joins the directorial team for the upcoming ‘Ms. Marvel’ series.

They join Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the duo behind this year’s Bad Boys for Life, who have been tapped to work on episodes of the series.

Ms. Marvel centers around Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teen, making her the first Muslim Marvel character to headline her own title. Written for Marvel by Bisha K. Ali, the character hails from the comic series by G. Willow Wilson and focuses on her life in a religious family while she tries to figure out her own identity.

Chinoy is a celebrated documentarian who is also a two time Oscar winner and is the first and only Pakistani to win an Academy Award. Menon, who is best known for her work in the 2013 indie road trip comedy, Farah Goes Bang, is also an MCU and DCEU alum.
