Mentalhood (ALTBalaji): Varying shades of Motherhood

Playing with a child is one thing but raising one is an entirely different experience. After all, motherhood is no child’s play.

ALTBalaji released the trailer for its upcoming web series, Mentalhood.

Mentalhood (ALTBalaji): Varying shades of Motherhood 1

The trailer starts with the voice-over describing motherhood as “a journey full of life, peace and trust” in a soothing voice, and then chaos erupts, contradicting the statement. It introduces the central characters of the show, who are all very different from each other, struggling with their responsibilities without ever being appreciated for their efforts.

By portraying these mothers as poles apart, perhaps the show seeks to break the stereotype around the idea of motherhood. The show is set to explore unfamiliar terrains by showing a man who is a homemaker, a mother who shows dominating traits that are mostly attributed to fathers, and more.

The trailer hints that the web series will have elements like domestic violence, bullying and child sexual assault. These problems will affect the central characters of the show either directly or indirectly through their children.

The web series is based on the lives of mothers, and how they multitask to balance their personal or professional lives, as they try to provide the best upbringing to their children. The web series seems to deal with these issues but not without a pinch of humour.

Actress Karisma Kapoor is set to make her debut on the digital platform with this show. Along with her, actors like Shilpa Shukla, Tillotama Singh, Dino Morea, Shruti Seth and Sandhya Mridu will also be seen in the show.

The web series is directed by Karishma Kohli. It will be available on ALTBalaji and Zee5 from 11 March.
