Meghan Markle and Netflix team up for animated series

Meghan Markle is set to join hands with Netflix for a brand-new animated series. Under the working title ‘Pearl,’ the show will focus on the stories of influential women.

A blend of adventure, fantasy and history, the ‘family series’ will follow a ‘12-year-old girl’ as she sets out on an adventure and meets ‘extraordinary women’ from throughout history.

In an announcement from her and her husband Prince Harry’s production company, Markle stated: “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges.”

David Furnish and Carolyn Soper, who previously worked together on Rocketman and Sherlock Gnomes, and Emmy Winners Liz Garbus and Dan Cogan will join Meghan Markle as producers. Amanda Rynda will be working as showrunner and executive producer.

A part of the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’ $100 million contract with Netflix, ‘Pearl’ will be the second Archwell Production project. In April, they announced their first project, a docu-series about the Invictus Games, an athletic competition for wounded, injured and sick members of the military that Harry founded in 2014.

Still in its developmental stage, the release date for the series has not been announced.
