Maharashtra Govt permits entertainment platforms to resume shooting

In a welcome move by Maharashtra govt, shooting for films, TV serials, advertisements and OTT platforms is to resume with immediate effect. Following the announcement, the entertainment industry has erupted in support of the move.

Issuing a Government Resolution (GR), the Cultural Affairs Ministry of State has instructed for pre-production and post-production work to start at the earliest, in the non-containment zones with strict adherence to the social distancing guidelines set by the government. Stressing on the need for personal hygiene, one of the government recommendations included the mandatory presence of a doctor, nurse and ambulance on every set.

According to the new set of norms, the responsibility of shoot resumption will be on the producers. Producers have to take prior permission from the District Collector of a location before shooting.

Although facing contamination hazards and manpower shortages, the entertainment fraternity has welcomed the decision with open arms. Industry bigshots; director-producer Ekta Kapoor, actor-director JD Majhethia, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, amongst others, expressed gratitude to Maharashtra CM, Uddhav Thackeray for the relieving gesture.

Shooting and production work had remained suspended since mid-March in view of the coronavirus pandemic. “It will now reach every household and bring smiles…This was an important decision,” said Majethia.
