Konkona Sen Sharma will direct a new original web series for Zee studio, based on the life and times of a Bengali cabaret dancer.
The series will focus on Aarti Das, popularly known as the Queen of Cabaret in Kolkata, who went by the alias Miss Shefali. It will chronicle her life events, following her journey in the 60s and 70s and the political standing of West Bengal at the time.
The whole era of post-partition and pre-liberalisation fascinated me! Since I am from Kolkata, I have been aware of the subject and her unique story. It’s about the fascinating life of this female protagonist who decided to live life on her own terms, it’s extremely interesting, and right up my alley. That is why I decided to make this series

Konkona made her directorial debut in 2017, with her feature film A Death in the Gunj.
Details are yet to be released about the web series but Konkona has revealed that casting is still underway and the script is a work-in-progress. Even so, the show is expected to grace our screens in early 2020.
