Khufiya: Tabu and Vishal Bhardwaj reunite for Netflix espionage thriller

Netflix’s upcoming espionage-thriller film ‘Khufiya’ sees actor Tabu and director Vishal Bhardwaj working together again after past successes; ’Haider’ and ‘Maqbool’.

Khufiya also stars Ali Fazal, Ashish Vidyarthi and Wamiqa Gabbi. Bhardwaj has co-written the film with Rohan Narula, along with producing it under the Vishal Bhardwaj Films banner.

The platform recently released its first-look teaser:

Although the clip does not reveal much detail, the characters’ expressions hint at an intense and grave affair.

The official synopsis for the film reads:

“Khufiya takes you on a journey of an R&AW operative-Krishna Mehra, who is assigned a very crucial mission which leaves her juggling between her dual identity as a spy and a lover.”

It is based on ‘Escape to Nowhere’, a novel written by ex-Chief of the Counter Espionage Unit of R&AW, Amar Bhushan.

During ‘Netflix Films Day’, an event that saw the platform giving sneak peeks at a number of films, Bhardwaj cheekily suggested that every film he makes is with Tabu in mind. He even changed the gender of the protagonist from the book to cast her.
