Kaagaz on ZEE5: Pankaj Tripathi helms satirical comedy

Zee5 recently announced the release date for Kaagaz, a Salman Khan Films production starring Pankaj Tripathi in the lead.

Kaagaz will be available to stream from January 7, 2021. It will also release on some select theatres in Uttar Pradesh.

The upcoming satirical comedy will comment on the erroneous system of land resources. Tripathi will play a man who struggles to prove his existence as he is officially declared dead on paper.

His character is based on Lal Bihari Mritak, a man from Uttar Pradesh who underwent a similar struggle. He was declared dead in the land revenue records of his state.

The actor took to Twitter to share the first look of the film:

Kaagaz is directed by Satish Kaushik who will also appear on screen. Talking about his upcoming venture, he said: “I remember reading about the story of Lal Bihari Mritak in the news for the first time, I was intrigued and inspired with his journey, so I did a lot of research on the events that took place in his life. Eventually, it felt to me like this story deserved to be told to the world.”

Lal Bihari Mritak fought for his identity for nearly two decades after he was declared dead in 1976. Upon finding out that he isn’t alone in this fight, he found the ‘Mritak Sangh’.
