John Cena to star in ‘Peacemaker’, HBO Max’s Suicide Squad spinoff

WWE wrestler John Cena is set to star in The Suicide Squad spinoff series titled ‘Peacemaker’ on HBO Max. It will start streaming in early 2021.

Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad director James Gunn will helm the project, which revolves around the origins of the titular character ‘Peacemaker’, played by Cena.

The popular wrestler expressed excitement for the project on social media:

Talking about the project, Gunn said:

“I’m excited to expand ‘The Suicide Squad’ and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake.”

The filmmaker saw himself removed from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after some of his old social media tweets came to light in 2018, but was later reinstated.

Cena is also set to be a part of The Suicide Squad, set for release in 2021, as the Peacemaker.

HBO Max has a string of DC projects lined up, including the Snyder Cut of Justice League.
