JioTV+: Reliance announces new OTT content aggregator service

The Indian tech giant, Reliance, announced a new Jio service at their 43rd Annual General Meeting yesterday. The new asset, named JioTV+, is a content aggregator that will pool together Over the top (OTT) platforms, Television channels, numerous apps, and services together for Jio set-top-box users.

At the meeting, the user interface for the service was unveiled along with the information that it will collect 12 leading OTT platforms in one place including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar along with local players like Jio Cinema, SonyLIV, Voot, ZEE5, among others.

Furthermore, another unique feature of JioTV+ will be that it will require a single set of login details to access multiple apps. It will also be equipped with voice command search based on directors, producers, actors, genres, and moods. It also boasts of interactive features like being able to vote for contestants in reality shows.

Reliance’s Akash Ambani said:

“For decades, TV content has been largely broadcast-dependent without any interactivity. With JioFiber, we have reimagined this experience and brought interactivity to TV. Through the Jio App Store on the Set Top Box, one can access internet applications across multiple genres such as entertainment, education, health, cooking, yoga, gaming, religion, and many more.”

This product is a direct competitor to the Amazon Fire Stick and TataSky Binge service which are known content aggregators within the Indian market.

According to the company, JioTV+ is the result of customer feedback which revealed difficulties faced by a lot of Jio set-top box users in discovering OTT content with different apps.

The official launch date for the service is still under wraps.
