Actors Vidyut Jammwal and Kunal Kemmu have tweeted against the partiality shown by Disney+ Hotstar in its recent announcement of 7 upcoming OTT releases.
Although Jammwal’s film ‘Khuda Hafiz’ is slated to have a digital release alongside 6 others on the streaming platform, he was not invited to the Instagram Live in which other stars of the fraternity broke the news out to their fans.
He mentions in his tweet that out of seven slated films, only five films and their stars were represented in the live announcement.
Actor Kunal Kemmu, whose film ‘Lootcase’ is also scheduled for a digital release on the platform, was not invited either. Kemmu’s tweet indirectly calls out the deliberate attempts of certain people in the industry who, with their money, muscle and contact power, make sure that the ‘playing field’ remains ‘unlevelled’.
With the untimely demise of Sushant Singh Rajput, social media had raged with discourses on nepotism and its slow poison towards struggling actors and non-star kids in the industry. With Disney+Hotstar’s announcement of making Rajput’s last film Dil Bechara a non-subscription watch free for everyone, netizens had erupted in support and applause.
However, after the call-outs by the two actors, Twitter is fully in support of Jammwal and Kemmu and has pointed out the elitism that in spite of thousand deaths still forms and will continue to be the backbone of the Industry. Thousands of tweets which had earlier commended the platform for its stand towards the recognition of true talent are now slamming it for being ‘internally nepotistic in its true colours’.
Disney+ Hotstar’s recent announcement of a chain of seven upcoming movies that will have their debut OTT release on the streaming platform has taken its audience base by storm. Involving big names of the industry, these upcoming movies had taken the decision to have an OTT release since theatres continue to be closed with the continuing uncertainty of the pandemic. Some of the films are Akshay Kumar’s ‘Laxmmi Bomb’, Ajay Devgn’s ‘Bhuj’ and Abhishek Bachchan’s ‘The Big Bull’.
