After Irrfan Khan and Arshad Warsi, Manav Kaul emerges as lead in Gormint

Manav Kaul will be leading Amazon Prime Video India’s Gormint after numerous setbacks and replacements over the past few years.

The narrative revolves around a washed-up arrogant Bollywood actor who finds himself unwittingly appointed as a temporary minister.

The story of Gormint has been a peculiar one. First slated to release in 2018, the show’s obstacles began mounting.

The rise of #MeToo movement saw the series’ writer and AIB co-founder Gursimran Khamba facing sexual harassment allegations. He was subsequently removed.

Gormint was originally supposed to star Irrfan Khan as the lead, but his need for surgery due to being diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour saw him walk out of the show.

Reports of Arshad Warsi coming in as his replacement began surfacing, but the whole show was shelved indefinitely.

Now, with Prime Video India announcing its slate of 14 new seasons and series, Manav Kaul has finally emerged as the lead.

Apart from Gormint, the platform is also bringing out six new originals; Bandish Bandits, Dilli, Mumbai Diaries-26/11, Paatal Lok, Sons of Soil- Jaipur Pink Panthers and The Last Hour.

Furthermore, some of its most popular titles, including Mirzapur, Inside Edge, The Family Man and Four More Shots Please! and Breathe will get new seasons.

The CEO and founder Jeff Bezos announced recently that the video-streaming platform is doing better in India than anywhere else and this has led them to double investment.

Looks like the Prime Video is leaving no stones unturned in gathering more Indian viewers over the coming years.
