Trailer out for HBO Max’s Homeschool Musical: Class of 2020

HBO Max has released the official trailer of its documentary Homeschool Musical: Class of 2020, which comes out on December 17.

The special gives a diverse group of high school students whose musicals got cancelled due to the pandemic a chance to showcase their talent to the world from the comfort of their homes.

Besides giving them the musical they never got, the documentary also touches upon the struggles these teens faced the past year and how they overcame them.

Homeschool Musical: Class of 2020 is inspired by Tony-winner Laura Benanti’s #SunshineSongs social media movement.

On March 13, the Broadway star posted a video on Instagram offering to be an audience to all the young students who lost out on musicals and performances due to COVID-19.

The response to Benanti’s campaign was phenomenal and thousands of people sent in their videos, prompting her to produce a series of online concerts from students’ #SunshineSong performances.

Homeschool Musical is based along similar lines. The HBO Max special, produced by World of Wonder, has Benanti as its executive producer, along with Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey, Tom Campbell and more.
