HBO Max’s ‘Gossip Girl’ reboot promises glamour and intrigue

HBO Max has unveiled a first-look teaser of the ‘Gossip Girl’ reboot which is set to stream on July 8. Kristen Bell, the show’s titular voice, is set to reprise her role in the bootstrap as the witty and gifted omniscient storyteller, who spins tales around the lives of high-class teenagers from the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York.

‘Gossip Girl’ features an enchanting and elite world of glamour, romances, intrigues, and scandals, under an ever watchful gossip girl (Bell). She is an eternal witness and transmitter of their colourful lives.

The reboot to ‘Gossip Girl’, based on a book series by the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar, picks up nine years after its original blogger’s website goes dark. It explores the effect of the new social media landscape and the changing New York fashion-scape on privileged youth.

The setting in this sequel remains the same but the focus is on a new generation of teens from the Upper East Side prep school — Constance Billard in Manhattan.

Going by the teaser, the show has caught up with changing times in terms of embracing evolving fashion trends and a whole new breed of image-conscious influencers among the class of 2021, and the mischievous gossip girl is around to relay this transformation from up-close.

Indulging in shenanigans as usual, she is heard saying that they should not get too comfortable as they are still under her vigilant gaze. She will ensure that their lives are mirrored for real, exposing their true selves. Towards the end of the teaser she signs off with her iconic, “You know you love me. Xoxo, gossip girl”.

The spirited all-new cast of ‘Gossip Girl’ includes, Emily Alyn Lind, Eli Brown, Whitney Peak, Thomas Doherty, Jordan Alexander, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Savannah Smith, Tavi Gevinson, Johnathan Fernandez, Jason Gotay, Adam Chanler-Berat, Laura Benanti, and Donna Murphy, among others.

The series created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage that catapulted the likes of Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Chase Crawford, Leighton Meester, and several others to fame has won 18 Teen Choice awards in the past.

Produced under the collective banner of Fake Empire, Alloy Entertainment Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios, the teaser promises more secrets and fun as the gossip girl is “back and badder than ever”.
