HBO Max scores again with ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ Reunion Special

The 90s are back. Following Friends and The West WingThe Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is third in line to announce a reunion special on HBO Max for the show’s 30th Anniversary.

The unscripted special is set to air around Thanksgiving and will be produced by Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s Westbrook media company. It will be taped on September 10, celebrating 30 years since the sitcom’s first appearance on NBC.

Smith will be joined by the cast members Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, and Daphne Maxwell Reid. DJ Jazzy Jeff, Smith’s long-standing hip-hop partner and friend, who was a recurring guest on the show, will also be joining the team.

The reunion will focus on the cast looking back on the time spent working together punctuated by music, dance, and special guests. This will be the second time the cast reunites since the virtual reunion earlier this year in April when the cast members participated in the finale of Smith’s Snapchat program, Will From Home, through a video calling session.

Apart from the upcoming special, Smith has also been working on a dramatic reboot of the show, which has been in the works for more than a year now.

Based on Morgan Cooper’s viral rendition of the series, Bel-Air which received more than 6 million views, the reboot will mark a steady departure from the original comic tones to a much darker environment.

Smith will be joining the show as the executive producer, while Cooper will reprise his role as the director and co-writer along with Chris Collins.
