Hasmukh: Vir Das plays murderous comedian in Netflix web series

Netflix’s new dark comedy web series titled ‘Hasmukh’, starring renowned comedian and actor Vir Das, will release on April 17.

Created by Applause Entertainment, an India-based content creation studio, the web series has been in the news since 2018, finally ready to stream on a platform.

The official description by Applause Entertainment reads:

“Hasmukh, an aspiring comedian who has good material but terrible delivery, discovers that the adrenaline rush he gets from committing a murder makes him funnier and more confident. He eventually makes it to a reality show in Mumbai, but as he has to kill offstage to kill onstage. Question is how long till he gets caught red-handed?”

Synopsis

The web series’ cast also features Ranveer Shorey, Ravi Kishan, Amrita Bagchi, Mantra, Manoj Pahwa, Suhail Nayyar, Joanna Robaczewska and Raza Murad.

Hasmukh has been directed and written by Nikhil Gonsalves, Other writers include Nikkhil Advani, Vir Das, Suparn Verma, Amoghh Ranadive & Neeraj Pandey.

The trailer shows Hasmukh, who’s desperate to make it big in the stand-up world. He meets Jimmy (Shorey) who claims to make him a star, but mentions that every artist needs their ‘viagra’, and Hasmukh’s viagra is murder.

Talking about the web series, Das had earlier said: “Hasmukh has been new for me in every possible way. It’s a character I have never dabbled with and also the writing process was drastically different, given I have previously not written comedy in Hindi.

“Plus this look, the character is very hinterland and not something the audience has seen me do before. So I’m excited because as an actor I like the idea of doing something new and taking on new challenges. And Hasmukh gave me exactly the opportunity for that.”
