The film, originally slated for an October 2021 release, is directed by Thomas Kail and features Lin-Manuel Miranda in the lead role, who also produced the film with Jeffrey Steller.

“I’m so proud of how beautifully Tommy Kail has brought ‘Hamilton’ to the screen. He’s given everyone who watches this film the best seat in the house,” Lin-Manuel Miranda said in a statement.

The release date of July 3, which precedes the Independence Day for the United States, is a deliberate gesture by Disney as it believes “the story of leadership, tenacity, hope, love & the power of people to unite against adversity is both relevant and inspiring”.

Hamilton, a story about the life of American statesman Alexander Hamilton, received critical acclaim, winning 11 Tony awards and Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Miranda took to Twitter to announce the release for the film, which majorly includes chunks of filmed performances featuring the original cast, shot at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

The fifteen-month preponement is being lauded, for the show had been a sell-out since its inception in 2015 and the audience had been eagerly waiting to watch the performance in-person, the possibility of which is “out of the window” due to the pandemic.
