Gully Boy, which hit a chord with millions of audiences and rap enthusiasts, has found its way into the International Feature Film category at the 92nd Academy Awards.
As India’s official entry, the movie will compete for the much-coveted award. The news was announced by the Film Federation of India recently.
Gully Boy, which stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, is a semi-autobiographical movie based on the lives of popular Mumbai underground rappers Divine and Naezy.
The movie revolves around an upcoming rapper named ‘Murad’ who is trying to break into the underground scene through his work while battling social stigma and stereotypes.
The movie was a huge success in India and abroad and was praised by critics and audiences alike.
Gully Boy has been directed by long-time director Zoya Akhtar, who is known for previous hits such as Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Lust Stories.
The movie is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
