Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’ wins Golden Globe for best animated feature

Director Guillermo del Toro made history by becoming the first Latino to win the Golden Globe for the best animated feature. His Netflix film, Pinocchio was presented with the award.

This version of the wooden puppet’s tale is also the first Netflix film to win the Golden Globes’ animated feature title. The film is a meticulously crafted stop-motion adventure that took two years to animate and puts a slightly darker and more fascinating twist on the story.

Winning the honor for his first animated project, del Toro, in his acceptance speech, said: “Animation is cinema, animation is not a genre for kids. It’s a medium.”

Pinocchio premiered on Netflix in December 2022 and features Gregory Mann, Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Christoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, Ron Perlman, and Finn Wolfhard, among others.
