The musical comedy film has an all-star cast of three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Kerry Washington, Keegan-Michael Key (Parks and Recreation), Andrew Rannells (Girls), Ariana DeBose (Hamilton), and newcomer Jo Ellen Pellman (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).

It is a cheerful adaptation of the 2016 award-winning Broadway musical of the same name. The stage musical by Chad Beguelin, Bob Martin, and Matthew Sklar received critical acclaim from both the people in the trade and the public.

Directed by Ryan Murphy (Eat Pray Love, Glee), the story is about Tony Award winner Dee Dee Allen (Meryl Streep), whose expensive new Broadway show – created in partnership with Barry Glickman (James Corden) – is a major flop.

To revive their careers, the duo finds a cause in Emma Nolan (Jo Ellen Pellman). Nolan is a high school senior who has been banned from attending the prom with her girlfriend, Alyssa (Ariana DeBose).

Joined by Broadway theatre veteran chorus girl Angie Dickinson (Nicole Kidman) and unlucky actor Trent Oliver (Andrew Rannells), The Prom revolves around the quartet in their attempt to give Nolan a night to truly celebrate who she is as they proceed to Edgewater, Indiana to help the lesbian teenagers. The film also stars Tracey Ullman, Kevin Chamberlin, Mary Kay Place, Logan Riley, Nico Greetham, Sofia Deler, and Nathaniel J. Potvin.
