The Witcher: Netflix releases first look for the series

Netflix finally revealed the first look for its upcoming adaptation of The Witcher with posters and images of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia via a series of tweets.

It also revealed the first look for the characters of Yennefer and Ciri. They are being played by Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan respectively.

First announced in 2017 by Netflix, the series is based on the book of the same name by Polish fantasy writer, Andrzej Sapkowski. It was first published in 1990.

The books were also made into a trilogy of open world RPG video games by Polish studio CD Projekt Red. The first game was released in 2007 and the second in 2011.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released in 2015 and received numerous game of the year awards. It has also been called the best video game of all time by many. They were all critically and commercially successful.

There is no confirmed release date for the show yet. It is, however, rumored to start streaming in the fall of this year. Netflix is likely to release a trailer at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con on 19 July.

The official synopsis for the show reads: “The Witcher Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.

“But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”

This is another major video game adaptation for Netflix. It announced a live-action version of Tom Clancy’s The Division earlier this year at E3.
