Filmfare to host OTT Awards in partnership with FLYX

COVID-19 has brought about unprecedented developments and changes, the biggest of them being the soaring rise of OTT platforms and digital content. Certainly, the country was witnessing changes in the viewership patterns before the lockdown as well, but the pandemic ended up accelerating that process.

Following the soaring rise of the industry and with an aim to serve its audience, Filmfare is set to join hands with FLYX to tap into a whole new universe of digital entertainment and content to celebrate the emerging talent within the OTT landscape.

Filmfare recently announced a new awards property called “Flyx Filmfare OTT Awards”. This new venture is going to honor creators, artists, and technicians across 30 categories. Only the content released between August 1, 2019, to July 31, 2020 will be considered.

With comedy emerging as a dominating genre in the OTT space, a slew of categories have been introduced within the genre: Best Comedy Series/Specials, Best Actor, Series (Male/Female): Comedy, Best Supporting Actor Series, (Male/Female). According to Filmfare, “the aim of this newly created category is to felicitate comic talent.”

Another interesting category to be introduced is the Best Unscripted (non-fiction) Original (Series/Special). Unscripted content has always had takers and OTT platforms have managed to give them a nod in that direction.

Coming down to the big names, there will be Best Actor Series (Male/Female): Drama, Best Supporting Actor Series, (Male/Female): Drama. The list also features a heap of technical awards comprising the fields of art direction, costume, cinematography, editing, story, best original soundtrack, background music et al in a series.

To honour original films, Best Film (Web Original), Best Actor (Male/Female) Web Original Film, and Best Supporting Actor (Male/Female) Web Original Film categories have been included as well.

In the name of tradition, Filmfare has decided to honor critically acclaimed performances per usual. This set will see categories like Best Actor Series (Male/Female) Critics: Comedy, Best Actor Series (Male/Female) Critics: Drama, and Best Series Critics and Best Director Critics.

Voting has begun in full force since November 23 and will come to an end on December 5. The last two days will see voting taking place exclusively on the app.
