Disney+ Hotstar has released the trailer for its upcoming film, ‘Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele’. It stars Anshuman Jha and Zareen Khan in the lead, and showcases love far away from conventional gender binaries.
The plot revolves around a woman and a man, Veer and Mansi, who go on a journey of self discovery and freedom as they travel together from Delhi to Mcleodganj. However, as they bond, they relate on another spectrum of emotions as they’re both homosexual and are trying to fit into a society riddled with homophobia.
The narrative also explores the nature of bonds between two individuals which are beyond romance and physical attraction, giving meaning to a deeper connect.
Talking about her being part of the film, Khan said:
“Just like Veer and Mansi’s lives change after their road trip, Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele has been a life-changing experience for me and I do hope the film is able to relay the message that love is love – to even more people as it releases.”
Jha too talked about his role and added:
“This is my most challenging role thus far and I am grateful to Harish sir for considering me for Veer.”
The film has been directed by Harish Vyas and also stars Gurfateh Pirzada, Jahnvi Rawat, along with Denzil Smith. It was supposed to release on Valentine’s Day in 2020 but got delayed owing to the pandemic. It will finally see a digital release on Disney+ Hotstar.
‘Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele’ has already received a few accolades. It received the Audience Choice Award at the HBO South Asian Film Festival in New York and Anshuman Jha won ‘Best Actor’ jury prize at the Rajasthan International Film Festival.
