All Emmy Award winners from the web space

The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards took place on 22nd September at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The night saw shows like Game of Thrones winning their final Emmys and British show Fleabag sweeping the awards throughout the night.

However, a lot of content from the web space also made a dent during the Awards with a few but substantial wins.

Amazon Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel had a record 8 wins, taking home multiple awards in various categories including – Tony Shalhoub won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Alex Borstein won for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, Jane Lynch won for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.

Other awards were – Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (M. David Mullen), Outstanding Period Costumes, Outstanding Hairstyling for a Single-Camera Series and Outstanding Music Supervision.

A Netflix series, Ozark, too, was a strong contender at the Emmys – with a total of nine nominations this year.

Emmy newbie Julia Garner won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series trophy whereas Jason Bateman, who also stars in the show, won the award for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series.

Garner was in competition in the Supporting Actress category that included Game Of Thrones‘ Lena Headey, Gwendoline Christie, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams as well as Killing Eve’s Fiona Shaw.

Netflix’s experiment with interactive television made a big impact with Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, which allowed viewers to direct the story at key points, took home the Emmy for Outstanding Television Movie.

Another major win for Netflix was Jharrel Jerome winning the award for Outstanding Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for When They See Us, Ava DuVernay’s series on the famous case of the Central Park Five.

With his win, the 21-year-old made history by becoming the first Afro-Latino and the youngest actor ever in his category to win an acting Emmy.

The run for Netflix did not stop there – the documentary Our Planet also won the Award for Outstanding Documentary or Non-fiction Series.

While Amazon had more wins during the TV broadcast, the overall count including Creative Arts Emmy awards gave Netflix 27 wins, Amazon 15, Hulu four, and YouTube four.
