Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. on Disney+: Teenage medical prodigy

Disney+ recently released the official trailer for Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. The series is set in Hawaii and is a reboot of the classic series ‘Doogie Houser, M.D.’. It is set to stream from 8 September 2021.

Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. centers around teenage wunderkind, Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) as she navigates life as an exceptionally young doctor while also attending high school and trying to enjoy her teenage years.

The trailer starts off with Lahela saving a man’s life on the beach and being the subject of a news broadcast. When faced with a skeptical patient, her colleague acknowledges the classic series, claiming that Lahela is a ‘real-life Doogie’.

She is also seen dealing with her own mother, Dr. Clara Hannon (Kathleen Rose Perkins), who doubles up as her boss at work. Her life is completely stretched between the responsibility of saving lives at work and living as a normal teenager.

Created by Kourtney Kang, the series also stars Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, Jason Scott Lee and Ronny Chieng in supporting roles. The theme song is a refreshed version of the original with music by Wendy Wang and Jake Shimabukuro, while the opening title sequence is also near-identical to the classic.
