Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare: Break all rules with Netflix’s latest film

Get ready to familiarise yourself with the trappings of sisterhood, with Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar, on Netflix.

Written and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, the film affords a simple yet wholesome narrative. Sharma and Pednekar, in their titular roles as Dolly and Kitty, will be seen navigating through the muted struggles of womanhood in search of personal autonomy. The two women, from different places in their lives, will be coming together in a joint endeavour to realise the ideal lives they’ve pictured for themselves.

The official poster for Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare was released by Netflix on Thursday:

While recalling her role as Dolly, a typical Indian homemaker seeking emancipation from her social circumstances, Sharma said in a statement:

“Dolly’s life is one we see so often—a bickering wife who is not satisfied with her husband’s unambitious ways; the mother of two young boys who she barely understands, all while dreaming of a life of luxury that is far beyond her reach. While she believes herself to be quite the rebel, she is blissfully unaware of how deeply conditioned she is in certain ways. It’s her journey of realisation and that to freedom that makes the story a fun yet heartwarming ride.”

Pednekar described Kitty (aka Kajal) as the small town ambitious girl moving to the big city with a head full of dreams, only to be confronted by the crude reality of everyday life.

“With a head full of dreams and aspirations along with a carefree attitude, Kitty embarks on a new journey with her sister. She discovers herself and evolves as a person, all the while stumbling and tripping along the way, to finally understand what it really takes to make her dreams a reality” the actor added.

Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare is set to premiere on September 18. This is Sharma’s second collaboration with Shrivastava after Lipstick Under My Burkha.
