Disney+ to produce female-centric Star Wars series

Disney+ is creating a female-centric Star Wars series. It will be written by Leslye Headland, a co-creator of Netflix’s Emmy-winning dark comedy series Russian Doll.

The live-action show will bring up the idea of entirely taking women into action and thriller with martial arts and kung-fu elements. The details about the series are limited at this point.

This ‘female-centric’ project is going to take place in another timeline. It will mark the fifth confirmed Star Wars show for Disney plus, with ‘The Mandalorian’, directed by Jon Favreau, already on the platform. The second season is set to premiere this October with third season already under production.

The shift towards women of the galaxy is seen to be facing a lot of criticism.

Also, the announcement shaped many rumours about the story and series link to fan-favourite Star Wars comic book series. The release date of the series has not yet been revealed.
