The Walt Disney Company has announced that the material from its Hotstar streaming service would be moved to ESPN+ and Hulu in the United States.
Having about 174 million paying members across its four streaming services, the company is attempting to gradually integrate its content into a Disney Bundle, which includes ESPN+, Hulu, Disney+, and over 100,000 movies, TV episodes, and sports events.
Hotstar’s sports programming will be moved to ESPN+, while Hotstar’s movies and TV shows will be transferred to Hulu.
A Hotstar annual subscription comes at $49.99 (about Rs. 3,650) per year, while the Disney Bundle begins at $13.99 (approximately Rs. 1,020) each month, costing customers about $167.88 (approximately Rs. 12,260) per year.
However, Hotstar members in the United States will receive a redemption code that can be used to obtain a complimentary subscription upgrade to the whole bundle.
Even the Indian Premier League (IPL), with an estimated brand value of $6.8 billion (about Rs. 49,660 crores), will appear in ESPN+ in the U.S. after the tournament resumes on 19th September.
