Disney+’s ‘Launchpad’ to showcase six bold short films

Disney+ has released the trailer for its new short film series, ‘Launchpad’, which will stream on the platform from May 28.

The series will showcase six different short films including ‘American Eid’, ‘Dinner is Served’, ‘Growing Fangs’, ‘The Last of the Chupacabras’, ‘Let’s Be Tigers’, and ‘The Little Prince(ss)’ by six new filmmakers, exhibiting diverse perspectives.

These short films, along the lines of Pixar Sparkshorts series, will feature bold and previously unheard stories of kids and teens from diverse cultures and underrepresented backgrounds. They will depict their struggles of coming to terms with being half human or Mexican-American or even with their non-gender-stereotypical vocational interests.

This heart-warming series aims to give a platform to the creative vision of film-makers from different backgrounds, chosen from among 1100 applicants in the US, under mentor-ship from Disney+, Lucasfilm Ltd., Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Mahin Ibrahim, Director, Diversity and Inclusion, Market at The Walt Disney Studios in a statement said:

“This first group of shorts by these six gifted filmmakers took our breath away. They are moving, provocative and entertaining, and they each convey a unique perspective on living in America today and the things you learn about yourself and others when you follow your own path. I am excited to share them with you, and I look forward to welcoming a new group of filmmakers from underrepresented backgrounds for our next season of ‘Launchpad’.”

The trailer featuring shots from all six films highlights that the series will present “bold storytelling from unique perspectives” letting the audience “discover the moments, magic and beauty that connects us”.
