Disney reveals first-look at animated film Iwájú

Disney revealed the first look for its upcoming animated film ‘Iwájú’ at D23 Expo. The film will be a collaboration between the company and African animation studio Kugali.

‘Iwájú’ is the first collaboration with an outside studio for Disney in its 100-year history. It is a futuristic coming-of-age tale set in Lagos, Nigeria.

The plot will follow the adventures of an heiress Tola and a street kid named Kole in the city. The company revealed a first-look image that shows the two kids accompanied by Tola’s robotic pet lizard Otin, being followed by drones.

Olufikayo Ziki Adeola has been announced as the writer and director for the series. Hamid Ibrahim will be the production designer on the project and Tulu Olowofoyeku will act as the cultural consultant.

The series will premiere in 2023.
