‘Diary of a Future President’ on Disney+: Teenage comedy returns with season 2

Disney+ has released the official trailer for ‘Diary of a Future President’ season 2. The American comedy-drama web series will return to the streamer after a long break. It is all set to premiere on August 18.

The first season, directed by Ilana Pea, premiered on Disney+ on January 17, 2020. Gina Rodriguez serves as an executive producer for the CBS Studios-produced series through her firm, I Can & I Will Productions. Robin Shorr is the showrunner for the project, with Pea and Emily Gipson as executive producers.

The plot is narrated through the protagonist Elena’s voice-overs as she reads from her personal diary. It follows the life of a 12-year-old Cuban-American girl in middle school, who hopes to be the president of the United States in the future.

As per the official synopsis, the new season picks up on “the origin story of Cuban American and future leader Elena Cañero-Reed (played by Tess Romero) as she enters the seventh grade” and experiences “the ups and downs of middle school, which sets her on the path to becoming the President of the United States”.

The show is set to release with 10 episodes where Elena comes face-to-face with her future self, played by Jane the Virgin star, Gina Rodriguez.

Besides them, the show has a plethora of cast members, with Selenis Leyva as Elena’s mother Gabi, Charlie Bushnell as Elena’s brother Bobby and Michael Weaver as Sam.

The coming-of-age, long-awaited series was renewed for a second season in the May of 2020.
