Dhanush turns gangster in Netflix’s ‘Jagame Thandhiram’

Netflix released the trailer of the much-awaited Tamil action movie ‘Jagame Thandhiram’. The Karthik Subaraj directorial premieres on Netflix on 18 June.

As per the official plot description, Jagame Thandiram chronicles an underworld scene wherein Peter, an affluent mafia hires Suruli, a reckless gangster from Madurai to infiltrate the gang of Sivadoss, which is rising in power.

Not giving away too much, the trailer introduces us to the pivotal characters, a powerful London-based gang leader ‘Peter’ assuring someone over a call: “We are like brothers”. And then there is Suruli, a witty, enraged gangster from Madurai, taking on his enemies in dazzling style. When someone tries to warn him for making a big mistake, he retorts with a punchy line: “I know that. Doesn’t matter if it’s small or big”.

Going by the moody trailer, it seems that Jagame Thandhiram will explore the issues of immigrants and Xenophobia.

The film stars Dhanush, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, James Cosmo, Kalaiyarasan, and Sharath Ravi. Cosmo, known for his international projects is making his debut in Indian cinema with this movie. The movie is bankrolled by S Sashikanth of YNOT studios, along with Reliance Entertainment.

Announcing the release of Jagame Thandhiram on Netflix, Dhanush tweeted: “What would have been a great theatrical experience coming to Netflix. Nevertheless hope you all enjoy Jagame Thandhiram and Suruli.”

Jagame Thandhiram was originally going to release theatrically in May 2020. But the second wave of the pandemic has left the makers with no choice but to proceed with an OTT release.
