Dera: Prakash Jha’s debut digital series with MX Player

Prakash Jha, who is known for his socio-political films, will be making his digital debut through his upcoming web series for MX Player.

Titled “Dera”, the show’s details have mostly been kept under wraps. However, some details about the plot and casting are public. From what is known, the show will be a political satire inspired by the real-life controversial godman “Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh”.

Moreover, Bobby Deol and Chandan Roy Sanyal have joined the cast of the show some time ago. Bobby will play the protagonist. This is Deol’s second web outing after ‘Class of 83’.

Sanyal announced his involvement in a press release. The actor was quoted in a statement:

The web space is a great platform for actors and filmmakers alike to explore newer themes and genres. With this new web-series, I will get an opportunity to work with one of my favourite directors, Prakash Jha. 

“The show has a unique and interesting storyline. It will be amazing to work with Prakash sir and Bobby Deol who also stars in this series. I cannot reveal much but I will say that you will get to see a different side of us in the show.

He is known for his roles in other web series such as “Bhram” and “Hawa Badle Hassu”.

Others actors playing roles in the show include Tridha Chaudhary and Vikram Kochhar, known for their parts in other streaming platforms.

MX Player, a mobile video player recently made the shift toward becoming an OTT platform. The collaboration between the company and Prakash Jha and is an ambitious one and will surely pay off considering Jha’s other works.

Dera has reportedly started shooting and more details will be revealed soon. Watch this space for more.
