Death to 2020 on Netflix: Dissecting the unfortunate year

The year has been a disastrous one for people across the world. As 2020 is drawing to a close, Black Mirror creators Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones have come up with their new series, ‘Death to 2020’. The show will premiere on December 27.

Netflix is promoting the project as a ‘comedy event’. It is mainly proposed to ridicule 2020 by discussing major events, beginning with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Death to 2020 stars Samuel L. Jackson (Dash Bracket), Hugh Grant (Tennyson Foss), Tracey Ullman (Queen Elizabeth II), Samson Kayo (Pyrex Flask), Kumail Nanjiani (Bark Multiverse), and Joe Keery (Duke Goolies).

Jackson plays the role of a reporter, Grant as a historian, Kayo a scientist, and Nanjiani a tech officer. Keery appears to be an average citizen, working as a content provider, and Ullman plays the role of the monarch, Queen Elizabeth.

Brooker recently posted a tweet revealing two of the characters:

The official description for the show reads:

“A year whose story couldn’t be told until now, because it was still happening. From the creators of Black Mirror comes Death to 2020 – a Netflix Comedy Event.”
